Messages From Effingham Visitors
John Shockett, Boulder, Co. - "Good Afternoon, I wanted to share my story with your kind city. In 1968 I came from England to visit my friend living in NYC ,we decided to by a car and drive across the USA. We were both in our early 20,s,well to cut this story short we broke down in your wonderful kind city, we were towed to the local garage and the owner could not look at it till the morning. The next morning he knocked at the door to the motel and told us that the car would maybe get us to California. I asked him how much we owed him and he told us drive carefully and would not take any money from us. I have never forgotten how wonderful he was and he let us by him coffee and some Breakfast. I am sorry I have not let your wonderful City know that 50 years ago. Your people were very kind to 2 Englishman. Thank you very much."

Edward J. Donnelly, Pittsburgh, Pa.- "On the afternoon of July 8th traveling home to Pittsburgh, PA I stopped in the Effingham Dollar General parking lot on N Keller Drive to place a phone call. Upon restarting my car I found my battery was dead. I put in a call to AAA but before they could arrive an officer from your department (K-9 Unit) stopped to inquire if I needed assistance and provided me with a "jump" for my battery. I would like t to thank that officer and your department for the assistance and kindness extended to my wife and me. "
